  1. Find strong female role models

This is so important. I have two beautiful and very strong female role models. The older women in your life may seem like they’ve got it together but they were once 19 and scared, just like you ! from face creams & clothing to older men’s fascination with younger women, your aunties usually know what’s up. If you do not feel comfortable talking to your mother, find an older woman who feels like home. My mother personally is an angel, but of course, when I was younger and even sometimes still, I can’t tell her all the bad things I’ve done, or go to her about advice for sex.

My mother is also, while incredibly intelligent, educated, collected and sophisticated, the complete opposite of my personality. I am loud, opinionated, “overdramatic” and since I was a child, been sensationally unique (weird). Therefore, I think it is genuinely hard for my mother to give me advice since we are so different, with different values.

So, I’ve found older women that are a little more like me, that I can find kinship in. This has led to brilliant discoveries, such as the importance of duality, that even the most hardworking, healthy, and insightful women I know, have stupid impulsive tattoos, had children at 15, smoke Maryjane. Community is essential. It takes a village and no matter how old you are, you are still growing.
